[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]For many, the idea of medical cannabis is unpalatable simply because it involves smoking. This attitude is a shame, since the potential benefits of cannabis get lost due to its method of consumption. There is an alternative, though, and it’s something we all do every day: eating. Edible cannabis products, also known as edibles, are a popular alternative to smoking or vaporizing, and edibles recipes are far more varied than the so-called “pot brownie”. Here are a few easy recipes you can use with your medical cannabis.

Cannabutter

This is the key to many edibles recipes; if cooked long enough, cannabutter tastes almost indistinguishable from regular butter, allowing you to use it in many of your usual recipes. This recipe requires a slow cooker.

Ingredients

  • 1lb unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ounce ground cannabis

Directions

Turn slow cooker on low, adding all ingredients. Cover and let simmer for 8 – 24 hours. Strain out into a refrigerator-safe container and discard leftover material. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Separate hardened butter from water. Let cannabutter sit to soften (do not use microwave).

Macaroni and Cheese

Like we said, not all edibles recipes have to be desserts. This is a delicious lunch option, and it even keeps well for leftovers (if you manage to save any, that is!)

Ingredients

  • ½ lb elbow macaroni or shell pasta
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp cannabutter (see above)
  • ½ cup flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 2 cups grated cheddar
  • ½ cup sharp cheddar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Directions

Heat over to 375. Boil, cook, and strain pasta. In small saucepan, melt cannabutter. Add flour and whisk for five minutes. And milk and cook until thickened and smooth. Add mozzarella, cheddar, salt, paprika, and nutmeg. Add cooked macaroni and stir. In a small bowl, combine canola oil, breadcrumbs, and sharp cheddar. Sprinkle onto pasta mixture. Bake for 25 – 35 minutes.

Thai Iced Tea

Yes, you read that right; edibles can even be drinks! For those on a diet, or just looking for something refreshing to aid your medical cannabis consumption, this is a great option.

Ingredients

  • 6 chai or black teabags
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cardamom pods
  • 1 star anise
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ – ½ granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 3 tbsp melted cannabutter (see above)

Directions

Place teabags, cinnamon, cardamom, anise, and vanilla extract into a pitcher. Boil water and pour into pitcher. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove teabags and add sugar if desired. In a small bowl, combine condensed milk and cannabutter. Fill glasses with tea and add 2 ounces of milk/cannabutter mixture per glass. Serve with ice cubes.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
